| Yin & Yang |
A Chinese concept (also known as "in & yo in Japan) it reflects the opposites - yin symbolizes the female, north, darkness, and cold (among other things) while yang symbolizes the male, south, light and warmth (again among many other things). The two forces are intended to balance one another in harmony, not to have one dominate over the other. While not a cause of transformations, it is often used as a reference point where a subject is somehow split into their good and evil halves, and must be reunified. A somewhat different unification of female and male aspects was expressed in Europe and the Middle East as "androgyne" (See entries on Androgyne, Hermaphrodite) where a state of "perfect" being on the mortal plane could occur by the unification of male and female aspects into one being. |

| Zoo Crew, Captain Carrot and the |
Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew was a short-lived Furry/Funny Animal superhero team comic book printed by DC Comics in the 1980's. It was "linked" to the mainstream DC Comics universe as Superman was sent to a dimension of anthromorphic animals, some of whom gained powers due to Superman's presence there. While Superman returned home, these anthromorphic heroes joined together to form the Zoo Crew. The membership included Captain Carrot (A rabbit who gained super strength for a period of time after eating a "cosmic carrot"; Alley-Cat-Dabra (A magical black cat); Fastback (A turtle with super-speed) ; Pig Iron (A steel pig); Rubber Duck (A duck with stretching powers) and Yankee Poodle (a poodle with the power to atteact and repel). A final member named Little Cheese, a mouse who could shrink in size, joined about halfway through the series. The comic did mine the older DC Comics Funny Animal mythos, resulting in one team up with the "Just'a Lotta Animals" (See Just'a Lotta Animals entry). Like many furry super-hero comics of the period, this one was eventually cancelled. |
