A symbol, or object that represents a concept or link to 'something greater'. In transformational terms, it is a symbol or object that a person focuses upon to trigger a transformation. See Jewelry, Sword, Trigger. |
| Illusion |
Misdirection; Creating a sense that something is happening which really is not happening. Illusion is commonly used in the real world by stage magicians, and photomanipulators to create the impression that their tricks are real. |
| Inbreeding |
A selective means to create a new species or breed by restricting the genetic pool available for procreation. This is used by livestock breeders to raise better strains of animals, and by dog breeders that have specific breeds of dogs to raise. The downside is that such inbreeding sometimes leads to undesired defects - shorter life spans, health issues, susceptibility to diseases, etc. Among humans there are examples of extreme inbreeding, ranging from the Royal bloodlines in Europe, Egypt and elsewhere, to isolated enclaves. This has lead to drops in intelligence, infertility, a rise in birth defects, and other serious health problems. |
| Infanto Ray |
An age regression device featured in the "Space Ace" video game-cartoon of the late 1980's. The device would turn the lead character - "Space Ace" into a child if he was hit. The ray was temporary in nature, and assuming he was not killed (in the video game) he would grow back to his normal age. The Space Ace (and companion game Dragon's Lair) are also notable in their use of using high-quality animations by Don Bluth, which as of the early 21st century had not been surpassed. |
| Inflation |
A topographic transformation type where a person becomes like a balloon, growing larger and rounder. The idea probably originates from cartoons. The inflation medium varies, although air and water are common, and to a lesser extent, food. See also Plastic Man, Vore. |
| Invisibility |
According to Monty Python, "The art of not being seen". Invisibility has been used in stories since ancient times, and is commonly applied to ghosts and monsters, although there are references to articles of clothing that will make their wearer invisible. The U.S. Military is interested in such garments, and it may be possible to create a chameleon-like suit within a few decades that allows one to blend in with their surroundings. As for its use in transformation, the Invisible Woman of Marvel Comics has the longest stint of using invisibility in a variety of ways. |
